The Fame Monster
Lady Gaga's new record came out today and let me just say that I'm not too sure how I feel about it.
Inspired by horror movies and written to a muted fashion show, The Fame Monster contains 8 new tracks including "Bad Romance" and "Telephone" which features Beyonce. Originally, The Fame Monster was to be included as a second disc to a re-issue of Gaga's The Fame, but is instead available as an EP due to the fact that most re-issues don't sell well. The cd deals with the negative sides of fame; very different from her debut. On the record "So Happy I Could Die," Gaga tackles her fear of addiction while referring to an ex-lover as the "monster in my bed" on the song "Monster." The final song on The Fame Monster, "Teeth," sounds like something out of Chicago or Moulin Rouge with its snappy jazz-like chorus. "Alejandro" has a Shakira-like vibe to it, and in my opinion, is the worst song on the album. With lyrics like "she's a tramp, she's a vamp, but she's still got to dance" on the track "Dance in the Dark," Lady Gaga drew her inspiration from the 80's gothic synths of bands like Depeche Mode. I think I'm diggin' this song the most so far. Another song I'm just not that into is "Speechless." She performed this song on the AMA's last night, and I just can't help but think it's a little boring.
Gaga brought mixed feelings out of me for The Fame Monster but overall it's pretty alright. You may have to listen to it a few times for it to catch your ear.
Also out today is "She Wolf" by Shakira and "Rated R" by Rihanna.
