It's Donder, Not Donner

Did you know that a traditional Christmas dinner in early England was the head of a pig prepared with mustard? I don't know about you, but I'll pass on the piggy.

  • In 1836, Alabama became the first state to recognize Christmas as an official holiday.
  • In Ukraine, it is believed to be good luck to find a spiderweb on Christmas, so there they decorate their trees with fake webs and spiders.
  • The circus-inspired boxes of animal crackers were designed with a string so that they could be hung on Christmas trees.
  • For every real Christmas tree harvested, 2 or 3 seedlings are planted in its place.
  • Many American retailers make up to 70% of their annual revenue in the month proceeding Christmas.
  • In France, Christmas is called "Noel."
